POSITION OVERVIEW:
Merrimack Manufacturing LLC is recruiting for a Controls Engineer for developing and validating state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. This key role is responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing control systems in a cross-functional environment. The Controls Engineer will have ownership of all machine control, software, data collection, database reporting and vision inspection processes used in the production environment.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Merrimack Manufacturing LLC is recruiting for a Controls Engineer for developing and validating state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. This key role is responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing control systems in a cross-functional environment. The Controls Engineer will have ownership of all machine control, software, data collection, database reporting and vision inspection processes used in the production environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage control systems portion (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, computers, and communications) of new and ongoing production equipment projects, including validation.
- Update, modify, and continuously improve manufacturing controls systems including PLCs, HMIs, electrical distribution elements, motor controls, operator interfaces, vision inspections elements, robotics, and pneumatics distribution and control.
- Effectively and proactively identify root-causes of observed issues or control systems risks, then complete robust, sustained corrective actions.
- Utilize machine data and database elements to develop (with other engineering assistance as needed) visible process performance tools for engineering and operations daily process monitoring.
- Lead the development and deployment of Industry 4.0/IIoT elements in non-automated and semi-automated assembly environments, including pick-to-bin, augmented reality, machine monitoring, and visual factory elements.
- Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and other company team members for preventative and reactive repair projects.
- Maintain frequent and regular contact with operations and engineering to understand and address observed or perceived issues with equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- 3-5 years of experience with PLC programming and controls troubleshooting in a highly regulated manufacturing environment, medical preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of and ability to design, troubleshoot, and use ladder logic, relay controls, and controls power circuitry.
- Complete knowledge of and ability to use RS232, Ethernet/IP, and remote I/O communications protocols
- Understanding of and/or ability to use JAVA, Python, SQL and/or Visual Basic.
- Complete understanding and ability to use Excel, Word, Access, and all related computer software for machine design, programming, backup, and monitoring
- Experience with various sensor technologies including but not limited to 0-20ma, 4-20ma, 0-5VDC, and 0-10VDC analog signals.
- Experience and knowledge pertaining to motors and drives operating from 208/120VAC, 24VDC, 12VDC
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities daily
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or equivalent experience.
